Which Are The Best Ways To Manage Heartburn?
Heartburn and acid reflux are sometimes a problem but I am luckier than many thanks to the fact is mostly an unusual event that rarely occurs. What we call heartburn is nothing to do with the heart but it can be uncomfortable and it affects many people and some experience the symptoms quite regularly.
The times when I experience the symptoms heartburn gives us it usually disappears
and I am not sure how long it lasted. Not everyone is so fortunate and many people find the symptoms of heartburn are a frequent problem it becomes a normal event and they learn how to deal with it.
The cause of heartburn is a result of failure in the normal operation of a valve in the back of the throat known as a sphincter valve. The valve should close when not passing food through the throat and avoid the problems of acidic gases from the stomach which could rise and attacking the throat but sometimes for various reasons it can fail and allows the gasses to rise and attack the surface of the throat tissue. Once we understand how this occurs it explains what we experience when suffering from acid reflux or heartburn symptoms.
If this situation were allowed to continue for a long period of time it could breakdown the protective surface and damage the throat tissue but suffering a temporary occurrence of heartburn should not usually lead to any significant problems. It is very important that any medical condition is properly investigate so seek a diagnosis by arranging to visit your doctor to be reassured that your health is ok and there is no need for treatment.
There are some actions we can take to try to lessen the effects of symptoms of heartburn and reduce the frequency of attacks. Heartburn and acid reflux do seem to occur for me most often when I am already tired and I therefore assume that a good sleep pattern is beneficial.
I often read that there are foods that many people find lead to periods of heartburn and avoiding coffee may cut down the number of attacks as may reducing spicy food intake. Smoking may also be a factor presumably because the smoke is also attacking the throat and making matters worse.
So often we hear about health problems that can be reduced through a healthy diet combined with some exercise and ensuring you sleep properly can all help. Living in a healthy way and eating properly may cut down the effect and frequency of experiencing heartburn and also reduce the severity of the symptoms of acid reflux you suffer.
